The Deadly Fashion Trends Of History

If you’ve ever seen a picture or worn a garment that looked uncomfortable or even downright lethal, you would have thought to yourself “Gee whiz, that was such a great trend / garment!” Unfortunately, most people do not realize that many of fashion’s infamous deadly fashion trends have been around for a very long time. As with anything else, when something becomes too popular and common, it gets to be overused and people begin to feel bad about wearing it. Thus, instead of benefiting from the popularity, they quickly discover that what was once cool and trendy is now downright deadly.

Let’s take for example the fashions that tell us that slimmer women should wear black clothing. Black clothing was almost always used to define and accentuate the curves that made them look slimmer in the first place. But now that black is simply used to define the “inferior” qualities of women, it has become a fashion trend that is not only overused, but that is also used to oppress women. In fact, one of the longest running and most vicious trends in fashion and beauty in history is the idea that the hourglass figure is somehow unattractive. The cost to actually look good can cause severe pain and suffering, and as any gynecologist will tell you, a woman’s curves are a gift from nature.

But let’s back up for a moment. The idea that a woman’s beauty is something to be ridiculed is not entirely true. After all, some of our most beautiful and beloved arts come from the cultures of other peoples who view beauty in different ways. And while it is important for women to be self confident and comfortable in their own skin, it is just as important for men to respect and admire the feminine beauty that women display every day. If a woman can have a tattoo and not be self-conscious about it, she can also bleach black teeth and use false eyelashes to make her eyes look bigger.
